The Most Current Commissary Pricelist for Idaho Prisons. But Not Really!

I recently submitted three separate public records requests for the current commissary pricelist for Idaho prisons. The Idaho Department of Correction (IDOC) responded to all three requests with the pricelist shared below.

The problem is, it doesn’t reflect the prices Idaho prisoners are currently paying.

I compared the cost of food, clothing, hygiene, electronics and other items on this list with what I am being charged at the Idaho State Correctional Institution. I found that I am paying an average of 2.5% more than the prices shown here (tax excluded).

Were I to guess the reason for this discrepancy, I would say the IDOC neglected to update its records when The Keefe Group increased Idaho commissary prices in May (and did it without notifying the resident population, as it’s contractually obligated to).

Innocent mistake or concentrated f***ery? I’ll let you decide.

Note:

IDOC residents can order up to $120 in food, hygiene and other miscellaneous items every week. There is no dollar limit on the amount of property items they can order.

In addition to their regular, weekly orders, residents and their supporters can also place specialty* orders through Access Securepak, not to exceed $200 per quarter.
